Hi I would like to ask if I marry my gf, how long does she have to wait till getting the GC? She is a native Singapore citizen (living in Singapore right now) and I am a GC holder from Singapore and currently in the process of applying for citizenship.

I am especially confused by the visa number issue..

thank you for your advice.

Regards,

Applying for spouse

Usually you are better off applying for your spouse's adjustment of status once you become a US citizen. The process is a lot faster (3-4 months nowadays) versus if you apply for her on a GC status. That process could take 4-6 yrs. You may want to double check with an immigration attorney or see the priority dates on uscis webpage www.uscis.gov

IF you marry her, file her I-130 right away as a resident filing for spouse, then update your application when you become citizen, that way, it will already be in the system. Those applications take maybe about a year for citizens filing for spouse.

With an approved I-130

So frustrated_alot what you are saying that after you become USC and you apply for an adjustment of status for your spouse with an approved I-130, that will speed up the process with the Green card. Let's see coz I applied for my wife's adjustment of status in January with an approved I-130. I have to see if it really speeds her process.

it speeds up the process because spouses of USC are not subject to a visa quota, while spouses of LPRs are. Some people believe that upgrading a petition is faster than filing a new one.

Adjustment of status is only possible if a person is already in the US. Advising somebody to do it while they are in Singapore is plain wrong. Please, Atlanta_brother, do not dispense advise if you don't know much about the situation.
