Hi folk, I have questions to be cleared before I start my trip.

Do you know they (Indian POE officer) do the fingerprint and take picture at port in India (New Delhi). I am flying after 2 weeks to India, could you please advised me what other documents are required other then RTD(with India visa valid for 3 months) at the Indian port and to get back to USA?

Do they (US POE officer) need Tax return documents as well? what about Asylum approval letter and I-94? Do we should to give our Aslyum approval stamped I-94 to get new I-94 at port?

Your reply would be greatly appreciated...NEPZ06

No FP or picture taken at indian poe, however, you should carry 2 passport style photos just in case.

If you are from Pakistan or Bangladesh, you would need to register with local police or else they will give you tough time exiting out of the country.

I went to India twice on my RTD, in 2005 and 2006- no pictures or fingerprinting. They did not ask me any questions
when entering or when exiting India. When coming back to the US, all you need is your RTD. They will ask you to go to the inspection room and will match the data from your RTD with the data on their computer. No questions asked while coming back to US either time for me, just stamped my RTD with the " Admitted indefinitely as a returnning asylee. Employment authorized" stamp. It took 10 minutes at the US POE.

Did you have a GC at the time of your trip? My sister wants to go to India, but I have read that it takes forever. Did you have this problem?

No, I did not have GC at that time. The first time in 2005 it took 3 months to get visa. In 2006, it was only 4 business days. So, I think that is what it is now

I'm a little confused about what documents to present. I know that for sure I need the form filled out, 2 passport pics, the RTD, and the fee (is it the usa fee or other countries fee?)
However, do I need to present a proof of long-term residency in the usa? do I have to submit the clearance form since I dont have a GC yet?
Also, Did you check in the form that you were a permanent/long-term resident in USA? and if you did, what document did you send to proof your asylum? or maybe you sent your receipt of the application for the GC?

I'm so sorry for all the questions. I don't want to do it wrong and be denied! I want to travel to India on December and I think I'll either go to the consulate or send my documents in August :)

Thank you for all your help!!

Yes, I checked that I am a long-term resident and indicated "asylee" in brackets. My RTD was my proof of asylum status. Check their website for the documents that they require for visitor's visa, as it may have changed. You may take a copy of your notice of asylum grant, but they did not ask me for that. Really, all I had to submit both times was the application, photographs and payment.
