Some more info (although bad for us)

seems like negative news against us get instant press, and no one really wants to write about our issues!! Also depressing is to see 3 republicans talk aginst the SJC. what do u expect, its an election year! everyone should suddenly start "caring" about american jobs!!

Yes, that's a given. These are times Americans are demanding less immigration and that would be the challenge it lies ahead to get such relief approved.I have a feeling that if we get approval to the 'recapture of visa numbers' from previous years, I will consider myself luck.

Now the question is, is the C-SPAN "Reconciliation Bill" discussion which happened on Oct 26th the one which addresses such increase in EB visa numbers ? So far my sources were unable to confirm that.

I think we should start writing to the congress men and women for supporting this bill. Lets state our case to John Hosttetler who seems to be the chairman for the house committee for immigration et el.

In my view the "kunckle heads" and American people understand what they are opposing; remember the bill proposes an increase in H1B numbers. Highly controversial these days, especially if you are an umemployed American. I understand such reaction. That's the part that are pissing off people at most. I am sure if the bill addressed only the "recapture" of Visa numbers that would be way more acceptable. Adding the exemption of family members will also be hard to sell, but we will see how it goes.

What we should do now is writing a decent letter explaining our plight again to the ones who opposed the bill. It is important to point out the EB issues again and keep praying.

Well then, Knuckle heads should realize the amount of revenues the immigration community on visas and EAD/GCs generate.
We have our Social security and Medicare stuck with them.
Let them return to us our hard earned money.
We dont need their immigration.
Seriously is there a way, we can sue the US-INS for such an action
Like give us Permanent residensy or give our doe's back.
This is absolutely ridiculous.
Corporate America following un-ethical business standards. It is pretty much like fraud with similar count as the Enron heads, WorldCOM heads..
There is absolutely no difference.

Don't worry

These guys represent the extreme right of the right wing of the republican party. If they especially rep Tancredo had his way he will ban immigration altogether. I suspect as I said previously, if something is to torpedo this out of the budget bill it will happen due to loud mouth right wingers in an election year where though hollow this sort of argument will resonate with a hurting middle class. The House is the key. I have contacted my representative about this and asked him to see to it that legal immigration reform is not shoved together with the illegal. When Tancredo refers to americans being against immigration, those surveys refer to illegals. I have yet to see a poll suggesting they are against immigration of legal aliens who help the high skill economy.
Lets see how it goes. This will be the biggest relief if it passes through.

I second that.... As a matter of fact I have talked to/corresponded with both politicians/lay people of both hues (Republicans & Democrats) and none of them are against "legal" employment based immigrants especially those who are already working in respected organizations, Actually in my experience the Republicans were more in favor of "legal" EB immigrants than the democrats who were more socialistic in their approach...

Thats why we need to generate our own press

Sorry, but Social Security and Medicare are taxes which they apply on your income. That is the cost of doing business (employment) in US ... you can't link the issue with immigration.

They most definitely can be linked with immigration, because it's our immigration status that prevents us from being able to collect Social Security or Medicare.

Social Security has a disability provision, for example. If an American citizen or GC holder gets permanently disabled, Social Security gives them a monthly amount for the rest of their life. If an H-1B or L-1 person gets permanently disabled, they don't get a dime (unless they are from one of the countries that have reciprocal SS agreements, such as the UK and Canada).

I actually just received my annual statement from the Social Security Administration saying that I have earned enough credits to qualify for death and disability benefits. But they wouldn't pay it because of my immigration status.
