Some advice about money in the USA for new immigrants

Yeah the good guy who answered basically told you that you were talking rubbish too..did you not realise that?

Sheesh... Maybe I need a break from here...

You are right. I was trying to help. I think we should try and do a small survey on how the guys who have gone on DV are doing and how they started. I feel that if you just arrive in US and compete for jobs with the people who are already established or already "broken in" into the system, you are at a disadvantage.
True
guys already there, we need to hear you. come on board

Am challenging any practising civil engineer in ca. to tell us that all you need is your degree no registration by a statutory professional body.
I repeat as one of you experienced and shared-if you find it hard getting professionally or eng. in training reg., you could get that done in WA and return to Ca as they recognise WA registration. Its an option as opposed to for instance going back to horizontal re-trainind I.e back to bsc.class, or changing careers

Oh now we are getting more and more specific, hmm, civil engineers is it? That "context" got lost apparently too in your "concise" post. Suddenly the post trying to imply engineers have difficulty finding work in CA is looking more and more dodgy as we need to make it more and more particular. Next we will find out that the one specific person mentioned had a particular issue on his CV, or something....

It occurs to me that CA probably has the largest concentration of foreign engineers in the entire US, given that it is a global technological/innovation hub. I wonder how come so many are working there if "they" don't "approve" them. ( one obvious answer is that in the US as many other countrries many jobs that ask for engineering degrees don't require the person to be a registered engineer).

@a Susie. My last response to this brusque encounter:
1. If you had an issue with clarity of my/any post, put it that way without being abrasive or insinuating that whoever wrote don't know what s/he meant,is unable to comprehend etc
2. Nobody talked of SCARCITY of eng. jobs in Ca.- it was all about professional recognition, period.
3.This guy got his DV chance slightly over a year after his ug studies n CV issues can't hold. He is happily practising in ca. today.
4 As for me, any response meant to leave 'an egg on the face will be let to pass' even though the forum (read forum members) benefits from exhaustive discussion of any matter.

Aha there is your issue my friend. About a year after undergrad? So he didn't have the requisite professional experience for registration as an engineer. Nothing to do with "them" not "approving" his degree. But in fact, precisely CV issues. Thank you for that clarificatiom, and we are happy to confirm that contrary to the intended implications, engineers can happily find work in CA and elsewhere.

Don't you think it's high time you stopped advising people on how to get a job or the line of work they should start with in the US since you haven't been through the process yourself? Not everyone is interested in starting life as a nursing assistant or even working along that line for that matter.

You're telling people to go spend money and get certified without telling them what that line of work entails. As a matter of fact, not all immigrants from Africa started out along that line to start with and they are doing well. Stop giving a one size fits all advise please!
You are right. Maybe I should just observe

Suzzie sweetheart. Don't you think that what you say is rude sometimes? Please let's build each other on this forum

Guys on the forum should learn from people like @Britsimon. The guy is so sweet and no rudeness comes from him. Please please I beg. Let's respect each other on the form

Let's not forget, we are all culturally different. I have been criticised for being rude/mean. Sarcasm is a sport where I come from, and other cultures may seem rude to you, but that is perception. Plus we are all human and therefore we will get irritated sometimes.

The immense benefits we have drawn from this forum compel us to keep enriching it as much, including sharing of opinions. No harm in pointing anything the matter with any post. If we disincentivize each other, that will not be good for. the forum

Especially when people are rude to me first, yes I admit I can be. Especially when what they have posted and are rudely defending can be misleading in important aspects to other posters, yes I admit I can be.
I'm probably a lot less patient than britsimon or sms1mom, sure. That's why I have not volunteered to become a moderator. Are they always sugar sweet and patient in every single post? I don't believe so and I believe they would happily admit that ;) Do I come on here and try be rude? No, I dont. My intention is to pay it forward. I think I do that more than not. But I am human. Apologies for the bouts of rudeness. They usually come about when I feel I have been bashing my head against a brick wall.

Well said. And yes I will happily admit to my being human. Or several Indian students depending on what you would like to believe.

@SusieQQQ. Sorry dear. Indeed you are just human. After all, we are all sinners.
