My husband is a winner of DV2009. I have a question regarding the Social Securty card. He is already in the US and activated his Green card a week ago. Do he need to apply for the Social Security card or it will come with his Green card together by mail? Because I saw some people in this forum who do apply and some do not but they're all still receiving their Social Security card. We are a little bit confuse, what can we do???

Need your advise please.

Thank you !!!

It all depends if on the DS 230 form you indicated YES on Q33a. If you answered Yes to both questions, the process should normally automatically forward your information to SSA for them to start processing your SS card when you activate your LPR at the POE. If you answered NO, then you have to go to your local SSA office to apply for one using your passport with the stamp temporary LPR.

Don't count on this, better go to the next SSA office.

But, what if I already have SSN. Will I get a new one, or just keep the old one?

Your SSN is issued for life. You don't need to change it. But if your SS card has any restriction then you can get them removed with your green card.

Change of address?

Is it possible to change the permenant US mailing address after I enter the US? Can I just go and claim my green-card personally??
