I was just wondering if it's possible for an illegal immigrant to obtain S.S if they have Final Adoption Decree, school identity card or a school record maintained by the school. This is needed for college and to obtain drivers license. If anyone can help or guide me i'd appreciate it a lot!

Simple answer is No.

If the person who adopted the Illegal Immigrant is a USC or GC holder, then the would have to file a Petition on behalf of the Illegal Immigrant and apply for Adjustment of Status.

If the Adjustment of Status is approved then they are issued a GC and can now apply for a SS Card.

Here is a quote from the Instructions to Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative.

"Adoptive parent or adopted child: If you and the person you are filing for are related by adoption, you must submit a copy of the adoption decree(s) showing that the adoption took place before the child became 16 years old.

If you adopted the sibling of a child you already adopted, you must submit a copy of the adoption decree(s) showing that the adoption of the sibling occurred before that child's18th birthday.

In either case, you must also submit copies of evidence that each child was in the legal custody of and resided with the parent(s) who adopted him or her for at least two years before or after adoption. Legal custody may only be granted by a court or recognized government entity and is usually granted at the time of the adoption is finalized. However, if legal custody is granted by a court or recognized government agency prior to the adoption, that time may count to fulfill the two-year legal custody requirement."

That means that the "good deed" of adopting an illegal immigrant's son/daughter so they can go to college. Must be done before the child is 16.

Tough break

In case you wonder... he is not my hero, nor do I endorse his campaign/views.

I actually have helped hundreds on "illegal" immigrants and their children as a volunteer medical interpreter here in Alabama for non-profit organizations.

Do I wish they had a better "legal" way of coming here and improving themselves? yes.

Well, her parents are mexican born.
I actually kind of respected that man... until I found that out. He hates mexicans, I mean one day he said on tv "those mexicans full of leper" or something to that extent, but his in-laws are mexicans, his wife is mexican, his daughter are 1/4 mexican, I mean come on.... If you hate so much an etnicity how can you get married to one of them.
BTW that guy also said that h1b holders do not pay taxes... I mean dilusional. I have been on an h1b for 7 years and I pay taxes, there is no way to avoid them.
I just remember him, because every time he answers something about illegals he gets all emotional, it is almost like physical pain. I watched his show for a few months, I am a news junkie :D and then I found out he is in love and had babies with a woman who obviously belongs etnically to the same country he refers as lepers.... I mean .....
I love Lou Dobbs anyway, he is pathetic in his own little way, it is actually funny. (type of the playboy girlsfriends sleeping with a 81 y.o type of pathethic-funny tv)

Judging by your answer I would beleive you have a bias against illegals. But is just an opinion. :D Take it easy.

Actually my bone-to-pick was to people who do something without doing some research first, getting the facts. I am a very organized person and I like having the facts before making a decision.

I am not saying this is what the OP did. That he adopted an illegal immigrant's son so he could go to college (which is commendable) but he did it without looking at that part of the I-130 that says it must be done before the kid is 16.

Like I said, I do not think that is what the OP did. But if it was, he should have looked at the options first. :p

I am not biased against anyone, except for the Venezuelan president.... but I do wish they had more opportunities and/or ways to improve themselves and their families, whether it is here or in their countries. It is very easy to speak poorly of a group of people, when you are not close to them. Helping pregnant women and their babies on prenatal care visits and pediatrician visits and medical interpreter taught me a lot. They are people, just like you and me, who happened to born (the parents) in a different country.

Well, in another of your post you said, "go mexican" referring to people using fake ssn. I wonder if the total population of Mexico does it...?

Lol. That was a joke. :) I doubt the entire mexican population does it, as the vast majority live IN mexico, so they do not need an SSN.

However, I would say that 9 out of every 10 people (illegals from mexico) that I asked (we had to ask to sign them in the program) were using someone else's SSN.
