Yes. But in addition, you will need the birth certificate, which takes a little longer. You can either apply for a birth certificate in the mail or you can go to the Office of Vital Records after about 2 to 3 weeks of the child's birth to obtain a birth certificate. You need to enclose an original copy of the birth certificate with the passport application.

SS Number is not required while applying for passport but an original birth certificate is required. SS Number can be updated later over the phone.

In NY it took 2 weeks to get the birth certi and about 3 weeks to get the SS number -- after birth. The birth certi application (including ssn) is routine if you give birth at a hospital.

SSN is not required for US passport.

I applied for my sons passport without SSN, yesterday I called them to check the status and they said its on its way. I asked the customer service person , once I get the SSN do I have to send the info to state dept., He said include when you renew the passport.

I (My son) still haven't got the SSN and its been 2 months since he is born. I need to goto local SSN office about the status.

I applied for my kids passports. No SSN supplied. I never applied for their SSN, what I have is their Tax ID number which is similar to SSN, but is not an SSN. Hence, I left the fields blank.
