Recently i went to the Social Security Office to apply for my SSN, the officer there took my documents and said in my passport "there is an A number written, if the A number written by an immigration officer they already applied for your SSN therefor no need to apply again."

Yesterday i met a friend who came to US with me from my country and i told him this he said there is no such thing and said i have to apply to my SSN and he has already applied it by himself.

Some one Please clarify this, im confused

This is very strange. "They" cannot apply for your SSN, it is only you who can do it, and there is a special form with your signature required. IMO, the officer simply tried to avoid an extra work :)

same thing my friend told me.

At POE they took my finger print and signature inside a metal frame which attached to a paper, i think that is for GC.other than that i didnt sign any where.

You have been told the truth. We (myself and wife) went to the Social in Security office (Jersey City) in February to apply for the numbers and we were turned away saying that it will automatically be sent to us. Our host disputed this, but we believed and decided to wait for a month, but lo and behold we received our numbers after 9 days.
However, nothing was mentioned about A#, but the reason some gave was that we had possibly requested that in the package we returned to KCC.
So my friend don't panic, you have been given the right advise. Wait after a month if you dont get the number you can go back for inquiry. I strongly believe that you will be sent the social security numbers.

thanks for your answer gooma, i went again to the Social Security Office and asked about this and they said the same thing, and they said if the SSN didnt arrive in 1 month time ask me to come and contact them.so i decieded to do that and thats the correct thing as u said.

please read the below artical i think this may be helpful for others who face this problem in future.

"The Social Security Administration (SSA) has entered into agreements with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of State (DOS) for those agencies to assist SSA by collecting as part of the immigration process the information SSA needs to assign Social Security numbers and issue Social Security number (SSN) cards. DHS electronically forwards the data to SSA once the person is admitted to the United States (U.S.), to assign Social Security numbers and issue SSN cards. SSA calls this data sharing process Enumeration at Entry (EAE). "

"Individuals age 18 or older applying at a foreign service post for an immigrant visa and alien registration, i.e., completes the Form DS-230 Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration, should answer “yes” to the questions 33a and 33b on the form if he or she wants an SSN assigned or replacement card issued.

The individual should receive his or her original or replacement SSN card within 3 weeks after arriving in the United States. The SSN card will be mailed to the same United States mailing address that is used to mail the Permanent Resident card (I-551)."
