Social Security Card for Parents

All,

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for my questions, please let me know if it is not.

I am a USC and sponsored my parents for their green cards. They've already got their actual cards back in June. I also took them to a local SS office in Woodbridge, NJ to apply for their SS numbers.

Back then, we were told that my parents would get their cards within a month. Well, it's been 4+ months and still no cards!!! I've been calling the local office and the 800 number for the past 3 months and have been told that the papers are still with the BCIS. I asked them if there is anything I could do (call BCIS etc), they said no - just wait. I did call the BCIS National Customer Service anyways, they had no idea.

Has anyone got a similar experience? Or, suggestion on what I need to do here?

Thanks a lot in advance!

That is too long. The problem is that when you go to the SSA office to ask for your SSN they must verify with the USCIS database. And that can take like 8 weeks or little bit more.
The USCIS customer service won't know anything about it since is an internal procedure.
Go again with your parents and their green cards to a different SSA office and ask them if they can verify THERE in the database, that you can wait. Sometimes they do that and you wait for several hours, after that they give you a receipt an within a week you should get their SSN in the mail.
Or you can go to the SSA with their receipts (SSA receipts for the SSN) and ask that if they can verify with USCIS database that you can wait or if there is already a SSN available for them.
Good luck,

Thanks, cherr1980 for the suggestion. The only problem is that my parents are not in the US for a couple more months. I will try calling other SSA office to see if they can verify my parents status on their database.

They do everything "in person" unfortunately, so they will have to go in person there with you and their green card to demostrate their situation. But good luck, the last thing they can tell you is no, right?
