Hi,
I am on my OPT after my Master's degree and I have not applied for my H1B yet. I am employed as a non-exempt employee. I got my first pay check today and my employer has deducted Social security and medicate tax. As fare as I know, on OPT, I should be exempt from SSN and medicare tax. Please advice.
Thanks.

after 5 years in F-1 status you get taxed as a resident.

Anyways, I paid my SS taxes and such during my CPT and OPT.

Hi Lucy,

Thanks for your response. I have a couple of friends who have paid and one of them said she got it back in tax refunds. I also know someone who did not pay till his shifted to H1. So.. I am confused....
