I got my green card few days ago, but I got a new social security card few months ago cuz I changed to my new last name right after got married. So on my SSN card it will said "work permit required" or something like that. I was wondering, since I got my green card, should I go back to the SSN office to got a new card which is not saying "work permit" stuff on.

I'm planning to travel outside of the US, do I need to apply for anything or let the immigration knows I'm going to travel. The expiration on my GC is 2009.

Thanks,

You do not have to apply for a new SS card unless you wish to do so. It's certainly better to have an unrestricted ss card, in my opinion, but it is entirely up to you.

You do not need anything except for the green card to travel and return to the US. What good would a green card do if you needed additional paperwork to work and travel? :) However, if you need to be outside the US for over 6 months, I think you will need a re-entry permit. Other members will be able to help you more, for I'm not versed in re-entry permit matters :)

Enjoy your new status - you have a lot of rights now! :)

a reentry permit is required only if she/he wants to stay outside the US for more than a year but less than two
