You must be new to this board

Your simple question is not that simple. The INS has a very random way of processing I-485. Currently it can take anywhere from 6 months to 2 years to get your I-485 completed. For the FP it can range from 2 months to a year.
For your second question as per the new laws to accept an offer from another company 180 days should has passed since your RD. If you change jobs before 180 days and INS does not process your case within 180 days, you are still OK.

Some more simple clearification :-)

Yes I am very much new to this board, but did understand your comment about peocessing time. When they send receit for I-485 said it will take 280 to 365 Days - but when I called TCS Telephone Answering Machine said it will take from 680 - 750 Days.

And let me make clear, as my RD is 28th Feb 2002, I will be free and on my own and can switch any number of job without affecting my GC process after 28th Aug 2002 ?

whoa, hold your horses...

the full implications of the "american competitiveness in the 21st century act" (a.k.a. AC21), which includes the 180-day I-485 portability rule, are still far from clear.

one thing is certainly clear: your I-485 remaining unadjudicated for 180 days does not mean you should be footloose and fancy free. in case you switch employers, your new job must match as closely as possible your old job (for which your LC was approved, and which formed the basis of your I-140) in title and description. and then again, the discretion of the adjudicating officer would prevail.

a lot of AC21 cases have certainly been approved; but in the absence of clear policy statements by INS in this regard, availing of AC21 portability can still be risky proposition, as some unfortunate people have found out.

bottom line: don\'t just scream "180 days!" and change your job if you don\'t absolutely have to.

on the other hand, if somebody were laid off, AC21 could be their only ray of hope.

Hi folks
I am a first timer in posting. MY RD 07/20/01, ND 09/06/2001 . I know one case which was filed 1 month earlier than me which was approved 1 month ago. But in my case, there is not even FP notice issued yet.
Any body in the same boat. Any thoughts about out what to do?
Thanks guys
