Significance of EAD / AP while I140 is pending...

I have a question regarding approved EAD/AP while I140 is still pending. I have seen various threads in this forum where EAD or AP was approved while I140 is still pending. Can this EAD or AP be used without the approval of I140? I will appreciate any response.
 
YES, and also get SSN# for your spouse showing EAD to SSA office even if she does not want to use EAD
