My wife in Seattle interview was clearly told by the IO that the signature on photo rule has CHANGED by USCIS,since *this week* (internal memo to IOs - not externally published I suppose)

She was asked to sign the photo like she usually does on bank checks, driver license etc.

Has anyone interviewing this week (in any DO) been advised of this rule change on signing photos like you do on bank checks?

People interviewing this week at Seattle or at any other city - please post on how you were asked to sign on the photo?

I would not be surprised if many IOs are not "yet aware" of this rule change? I dont know how effective USCIS is in keeping IOs all up-to-date and trained in latest internal memos

It seems like a logical move to me CrossHairs. I can't believe I used the word "logical" in a sentence describing a USCIS action! But what is the point of a signature if you can't use it to authenticate important documents - like natz certificates and bank checks?!

Agreed, LolaLi, just want to confirm if this is being uniformly implemented atleast in Seattle if not in other DO cities.

Well I don't know about the change or the memo, but I can tell you the Buffalo DO seems to be asking the folks to sign using their regular signature. At least that was my experience - but let's see what others say.

I had my interview on the 4th of June at the Kansas City DO, and the IO asked me to sign the photo and the application like i sign my bank checks.. I was worried about it, since another thread in this forum talked about signing the photo with you full name in cursive.. so may be the KC DO also got the same memo..

Lets see if more people attending interviews this week, next week etc can post their experiences. We'll see how many "active" forum members we have :)

I was asked to sign specifically with my regular signature. not cursive
but for my spouse, a different IO had asked her to sign in cursive full.
now for naturalization we will have to sign different ways,
hopefully when 1 apssport officer reviews both of our apps, he should not reject one!!!

When I had my interview back in July, I was not asked to sign the photos. This struck me as odd, and I started to panic a little in the days following the interview. My wife had her interview several days after mine, and I had her ask her IO about this. He told her not to worry and that the Santa Ana DO does not ask applicants to sign photos any more. No explanation given on when they stopped, or why. True to his word, he did not make my wife sign her photos.

I post this for informational / benchmarking purposes only. Clearly, different DOs do things differently when it comes to signing the photos. I post this only in case there are others here who were not asked to sign their photos. If you are one of them, then don't panic (like I did).

Regular Signature like Driving License

My Citizenship interview was last week. I was asked to sign just like my driver’s license which is just like my check signature. My signature in my Driving License is just my first name and NOT my full name.

I hope this helps and good luck!!

So this:
http://www.uscis.gov/files/nativedocuments/natz_interview_apr2508.pdf

is what my wife was told about!!!

I went there one week *after* my wife's Interview, and they made me sign my "legible full cursive name" - despite me telling them I heard rules changed. Oh well!!! The IO was starting to get irritated I was telling them "how to do their job"...

Bottomline: IO's get angry even if you "very politely" tell them "how to do their job"...politeness does not always work.

They may ask you to sign it the way THEY WANT IT, and thats how you will do it in the interview and get out.

Dont try cute things like taking the pdf print out from above and "showing it to the IO"...I am telling u they get angry if you tell them how to do their job (however politely)

Agreed

One of my friends recently passed his N-400 in Atlanta DO and yes he was also asked to sign his name just the way we sign our check book and other official documents. Looks like they have changed the way we used to sign few months ago.
