Should I wait or apply right now?

I am from NY.

Myself and My daughter have USA passports and documentation ready for applying for OCI. However my wife's US passport will take another 2 months to arrive.

A travel requirement has come up. We have to travel to India after 3.5-4 months.

Should I apply for OCI for myself and my daughter right now?
Or should I wait for my wife's passport to arrive and then apply for a Indian tourist visa for all of us for this Indian trip and apply for family oci after returning?

Thanks

If you are travelling after about 4 months then you can wait for wife's passport then apply for family OCI. Spending for visitor visa and then for OCI is a waste of money if your travel is not imminent.

Just my 2cents. You know your situation and do what you think is best for you.

Other option!

The other option that you have is to apply for PIO once your wife gets her passport, PIO in my opinion is processed faster (few weeks) than OCI and once you are back you can upgrade it to OCI as per instructions on the embassy website, that way you will not spend too much for each of the applicant.

Why not now?

Cant you apply for OCI for yourself and daughter now, and later for your wife? Why wait?

I agree.... Might as well apply for OCI for yourself and daughter now, atleast you wont have to spend on tourist visa for the two of you. You might need to get a tourist visa just for your wife and later spend again for her OCI, but thats better than paying for 3 visas and then 3 OCI's !!

Since I have 4 months time and CGI NY takes only 30-40 days to process OCI, I will wait for 2 more months and see if my wife's passport arrives. If it does not arrive by then, I will apply(OCI) for myself and my daughter (2 months from now). If wife's passport arrives we will apply for all (oci).

This idea is wrong simply because it costs more.
PIO card:$310 +OCI conversion $25=$335
OCI direct :$275

But if your daughter is below 18 you may consider a PIO for her because the equation then becomes
PIO card:$155 +OCI conversion $25 =$180
OCI direct:$275

Family apps have no advantage over individual apps except for the fact that part B remains common for the family. The bulk of individual documents required remains almost the same.

It was never said that it COSTS LESS to apply for PIO

The idea was to get the paperwork faster!!!! Specially since there is a minor the cost might just even out. Do your MATH....

Why apply for a PIO at all ?
If you have a deadline for an India visit take a 6 month tourist visa.
If your stay in india is going to be longer than 6 months apply for the OCI after reaching India on a 6 month visa.

That would mean less (& fast) paperwork and more money saved ! ! !
Why even out when you can save ? ? ?
In dealing with the bureaucracy strategy is more important than math........

Yeah!

These forums are for expressing your opinions and not misguide people, they are best judges of their situation and since ICA has decided to go OCI route why fight over it? I know you are smart as far as "saving money" etc. but I was just expressing my opinion.

Let's not argue over someone else's situation specially when the individual has it sorted already (your route!) and end this discussion here...

Thanks for your understanding!

Have are great Day!
