Sorry for asking silly question but since July 30 is very near should I overnight the application or just Certified with return receipt?

Also, is the address to overnight same as normal address as below:

USCIS
Vermont Service Center
75 Lower Welden St
St Albans
VT 05479-9400

Thx very much.

Read the documents that someone (Jedi.Knight) has posted. I believe it says "Postmarked before July 30". Sending it Certified mail with return receipt is probably the way to go (since the post office will "post mark" it - make sure you see them stamp the envelope).

Please have a look at the USCIS Press Release announcing the fee increase starting on 07/30/2007

http://www.uscis.gov/files/pressrelease/FeeReminder23Jul07.pdf

WASHINGTON—U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) reminds its customers that the agency’s new fee schedule is effective on Monday, July 30, 2007. Applications or petitions postmarked or otherwise filed on or after that date must include the new fee.

It does not matter when the USCIS receives your application since the postmark date will determine the application fee. As for the 1040 Tax Returns, you do not have to overnight, but please make sure that your application gets postmarked by 07/29 if you want to avoid paying the new fee.

Just my 2 cents.

You can overnight and return receipt simultaneously...this is what I did!

Thank you for the nice plug Flydog!

Best Wishes!

In general I would recommend not spending extra, but with the deadline approaching, it's perhaps a good idea to use some sort of return receipt service. After the fee increase on the 30th I would go back to my old recommendation that regular mail is fine :) Good luck to everyone trying to beat the clock.

Jedi,
If you overnight, then you dont need "certified" becos the overnight bill is automatically an equivalent for certified.
So overnight + return receipt == certified + return receipt.

Having said that, Vik Pal - it is the date on which you SEND it, not the date USCIS receives it, so you dont officially need to rush it.

The nice thing about "return receipt" is that little green post card that shows up in your mailbox about a week or so after you mail the application - it is the first sign that the process has started.

Exactly!

Exactly, this is why I did return receipt with the overnight express. And I got the return receipt three days after mailing!

Anyway, please do as you like I just shared what I did!:)
