I am here on an H4 visa and would like to take up a one year course from UCLA-Extension. I would like to change my visa to F1 as I would get the option of working on OPT. I am applying for the Fall 2007 program which will start in Sept, 2007.
My question is:
1. How long does it take to change status from H4 to F1, if I mail all the required documents to USCIS?
2. Would it be a risk if I went to India and got my F1 visa stamped before the course starts? The reason why I feel it maybe a risk is because every F1 student has to prove that he/she has a reason to come back to India after the studies..and since my husband is already here on H1, I may not be able to prove that.
