Should I go for H1 visa stamping??

My current H1 Stamping is expiring on 31st Dec 2009.
Should I go for the visa stamping interview, if I come back to US on 25th Dec? (I have an approved I-797 H1 extension till Dec-2012).

Has anyone come across such experience recently??
