Short trip on L1 visa

Is it possible to travel to US on a L1 visa for 3-4 months with out getting into the US employer's payroll and just get perdeim...and continue to get salary in india office?
The intension to return back to india office after 3-4 months and not worry about payroll transfer etc, and I do not want to go with B1 because "work" is involved...and I would also like to go with my wife and kid along with me in this trip...

The L-1 visa is meant to accomodate an overseas employee to transfer to a US office of the same fimr. In other words, the job should be US based, and thus on US payroll logically.
