Short term J1 to AOS (GC)

My spouse in US, has applied for AOS. Can I enter in US on J1 (2-3 months Externship program without 2 year HRR) and apply for AOS based on my spouse pending AOS?
 
J1 is a non-immigrant visa. They might question you later on during the AOS stage why you changed your mind and do AOS. Since your wife already has immigrant intent, you are no longer a non-immigrant. Try to enter on H1, thats much safer since its dual intent. Or do consular processing, thats the cleanest option.
