Shall I reschedule my interview?

I've an interview in 21st of January but I'm afraid that if I'm approved I won't be able to fly to US in the 6 months period. The problem is that I'm a student and this is my last year and I'll have my thesis somewhere in July ( I think - every year it's different). So it happens that I'll have to leave till 21st of July. I know that I can reschedule my interview at a later date but I like this one as I want to get over with this as fast as possible as I have too much to worry about my education now. Is there any other way? Can I ask at the embassy if they can issue my visa with a later date so I can travel later. Do you think this is possible?
I need advice - what should I do?

Thanks!

Yes, you can reschedule your interview to February or March. Alternatively, you can go for the interview and ask the interviewing officer to postpone the issue date of your visa to enable you complete your degree on time before embarking on your journey. Some people have done it before, so why not?

They are human beings like us, so if you explain your problem to you them they may be able to assist you.

Perhaps I'll go and ask for a delay of the issue date if possible. I'll post here the result after the interview.

I would suggest going for your interview on the date given. If you are successful you can activate your green card anytime in the 6 months. Book a holiday somewhere cheap in the US if possible and bring everything needed with you. Then you can return home for the couple of months and finish your thesis. If you activate it in April/May then you can move permanently anytime up to Oct/Nov.
No point in messing around with your interview. That's my opinion anyways. Good luck with it.

I agree with Cacio,But you won't even need to spend couple of months, You can Just activate the card and your SSN, And have them mailed to your home country :) and do what ever you want then go back to the US and good luck :) you don't know how lucky you are :) so I wish you the best new life there

If you dont have the finance of going to America to activate your visa and come back to your home country again, you can equally go for the interview the scheduled date.If you you are successful, you can ask the consular to post date the visa for you sometime April/May.Somebody did it and it worked but i wouldnt know if it is dependent on the discretion of the consular.Read the interview of TAY-14 in the link below.

I agree with Cacio, just book aflight for 2 days...why risk anything when you have come this far...but it is your own risk so you decide, we can only give advise...people gamble all the time, some win and some loose....as long as you can live with the risk, since if you reschedule and something comes up...you could be out of luck.

I agree. I would take the interview on the date you've been given. Explain to the officers your situation, but take whatever they give you. Then fly to the US, activate your residency, then leave.

Just be sure that if you are to be away for more than a year then you will need to apply for a re-entry permit, which takes a bit of time to process.

Personally, as soon as I activated my residency, I left the country again, went back to wrap up my job and sort out a complete move and made sure that i travelled back to the US within a year so that I dont have to bother with the re-entry permit.

Hope this helps.

Ok. Here's what happened. I went to the interview. It went very fast. They asked me very few questions. I don't even had to ask. They asked me if I want my visa to be issued 1-2 weeks later as thay saw I'm a student. I did however asked if it is posible to be posponed more but they told me that there are some deadlines that they can not pass. They also told me that I can travel to USA and come back to finish my education and then fly back again within one year etc. They did asked me some of the default questions but they didn't asked me where I want to go or what I want to do or how much money I'll take. They did notice that I've written that I work as a programmer and asked me about that too

They wished me good luck and told me to excpect my visa to arraive in mid-february.
If so I'll probaly have a month after my graduate to begin my jurney. I think I can hande it ;)
