Could somebody answer me this questions???
1. In Feb 3th is the due date of 150 waiting days for our status of application. Can my wife aply too for working authorization? or it is exclusive for the principal applicant?
2. My 13 digits receipt starts on letters ZMI. When I try to search for our on-line status the web page says that the information it isn't on the system. What happen?
3. How long usually is taking the approval after interview for asylum?
4. I had SSN in the past while I was in exchange program of military trainning. For subsistence reasons I worked in US since last year and the company is paying roll me with tax deductions. Are there any connection USCIS with IRS that can afect my asylum processing?

Thanks so much for the advice. This forum is very helpfull.

Application date: 9/6/05
Biometrics: 9/17/05
Interview: 9/29/05

1. both of you can apply for work authorization.
2. asylum cases pending before asylum offices cannot be checked online
3. general rule is two weeks but there are many exceptions. you can inquire with the miami asylum office if it has been too long.
4. working without permission is against the law. but it does not impact asylum eligibility.

Thanks again. In order that our deadline to apply for employment authorization is on Feb 3rd 2006, my wife and kids are going to receive a SSN? how long takes the autorization since the application?
I really appreciate it.

Also following your guys advice, we are going to apply for a driver license (Florida). My questions about SSN for my kids is because the state denied ensurance application because they are not SSN holders (Florida Kids Care Program). Thanks

As you know you cannot apply until you hit the 150th day mark. When you do (as long as the asylum case is still pending) send the applications to the Texas Service Center. The application form is I-765 (the link is http://uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/files/i-765.pdf).

Since this is your first application there is no application fee.

It takes about 40 to 50 days.

After you get your work permits you can go to the social security office and get your numbers (that process takes a two weeks or so; nothing is fast in this country).

For the driver's licenses, it it best to make an appointment on the DMV's website. Without an appointment you could spend a whole day at the dmv office.

Remember to bring USCIS documentation saying that your asylum application is pending, a photo ID of some kind and proof of your current address. You will not get the licenses on the same day. They will mail them to you after they verify your documents with the USCIS.

As for Florida Kids Care Program I am afraid that having a ssn is not enough for it. If I recall correctly, you need to have been granted asylum first before getting that.
