settlement funds and sin card

can someone tell, how much is a good amount to carry in the form of Travelers Checks to show as settlement funds?

also, where can I find addresses of Immigration offices where I can apply for SIN card?

this looks little complicated than I thought..

tell me if I am wrong..

1. I thought I dont have to apply for PR card seperately. When I land and fill out the landing papers at the post, it will be applied for right then and there
2. SIN card is something I apply for in one of the CIC offices in Canada.


do I have to have this receipt they are talking about before I can apply for SIN card, please explain me step by step procedure if you could.

I am gonna land on 4th July from Detroit border..
