Hello,

I am planning petitioning for my husband's K3 tomorrow, as we got married yesterday. He is a British citizen, and I am American. I would like to ask for anyone's experiences regarding using a service to submit my I-130 and so forth. I live in NY and I am presuming I would be using the Vermont office to file the papers. My husband is returning to the UK tomorrow, and I would like to expedite this ASAP...

Looking at all of the forms makes my head spin, and they look tricky...although I wonder how reputable or worth it a service would be...Any input would be welcomed.

Thanks !

The forms are not tricky at all, they are very simple to fill out you just must read and read again carefully and check out what they are asking for and submitt the exact documentation they are asking for. Order your file in a way they can find out your information quickly it is the best thing to do.

If you got married yesterday I think you need your marriage certificate and that takes a little bit to come back right? or they give you your marriage certificate right away?

Take fotocopies of all the information that you are submitting so you have a file for you and the file that you are going to send.

Good luck,

Hi, and thanks for your reply! I think you've confirmed what we thought in that the forms are made to look more intimidating than they actually are. Of course, they need to leglislate for every possible circumstance, so that's why there are hundreds of pages of notes and instructions, with mabye a two page form. We actually got our marriage certificate on spec, right after the ceremony was complete, so that's always a good thing. We're currently in the process of spelling it all out for the paper chasers, setting up joint bank accounts and such like, so, fingers crossed, things will go 'smoothly' (haha). We're going to play their tune as much as they like. We have recieved advice with regard to the fact that it's better not to trust someone else with things you can do yourself, although this came from a friend who used a lawyer to file her papers, so your input and viewpoint is very much appreciated. Thanks again! Be safe......

We Started the I-130, then K3, EAD and now Green Card all completed without the use of a lawyer. Just read the applications carefully and submit all documents required and you are all set. We are in NY and the first filing went to Vermont, then the majority of the applications went to chicago.

Good luck

Thanks again...What was your time line with regard to all of the procedures?

Just curious...I have literally arrived home after from dropping off my husband at JFK to return to the UK. I am simply wondering how long before I see him again.

The Notice date for the I-130 was May 22/03, it was approved on Oct 8/03. but before that, we had decide to go with the K3 and filed the I-129F and the notice date for that was June 10/03 .. that was approved on July 21/03.
My interview for the K3 was in Oct.22/03 .. was approved and visa issued and enter the US on Oct 23/03.
I applied for the EAD and the notice date was Nov.4/03 .. received my EAD card in March 23/04.
I waited until July 2005 before i adjusted my status, also apply for renewal of my EAD card since it expires on Oct 22/05( same as my K3 Visa). Notice date for my I-485 and I-765 was July 12/05. My interview was set on August on August 23/05 ... was approved pending just the name check. Receive my 10 year Green Card on Oct 28/05.

I have travelled back and forth between Canada and the US while my K3 was pending hundreds of times without any problem. Just bring enough documentations to show that you will be returning if they do ask.
