I interviewed for a senior IT consultant (SAP functional) for a big corporation (very reputed bodyshopper 3000 H1 + last year) and noticed the ad does not mention any education requirements (says experience in lieu.).

I possess a BSME (India) & MSIS (USA) and have had 4 TNs in the past (Mech Engineer) directly hired on client payroll.

Non degreed candidates are only eligible for Computer Systems Analyst or Management Consultant which is close to the TN category for this particular job posting.

Kindly advise if I am eligible to apply for TN in the first place under Computer Systems Analyst or Management Consultant and the pifalls under both.

Last 4 TNs were a breeze under Mech Engg category.

How the ad is phrased and whether the job (or you) is TN eligible are completely separate matters.

If the job it a CSA job, then you need to show you qualify for CSA TN, by degree or by diploma plus experience.

It's not a consultant position, or the ad/interview would have mentionned this.

Thanks and the ad states "Principal Tech Consultant" with the following job description. I have two degrees BSME (functional) & MSIS (tech requirements)

Q1> Which TN category does this align with ? Spoke to HR yesterday and she told me she will access to that info only after offer is signed after background check.
Q2> Have I erred by applying to this JD if it was not TN aligned in the first place? (Misrepresentation)

As I said, the job offer, which you seem to have successfully navigated, and getting the TN are two separate issues.

There can be no misrepresentation if you git the job offer: you meet their requirements.
It is clearly a CSA job. For it to qualify under MC category, it would need to spell out how long this consultancy will last (apart form the 3-yeare TN maximum) and show that you will not be part of the company's employee org chart. You would be hired for a specific purpose for a specific length of time.

NelsonA,
Thanks for the reply.

I have a BSME and an MSIS (US).

I have had 4 TNs in the past as a Mech Engineer for same title and same job description (2010 thru 2022).

With a MSIS degree (USA) and an new CV reflecting my Computer System Analyst skillset (training and experience from my previous Mech Engg roles) are there any legal impediments for me to apply as a Computer System analyst for my 5th TN?

This role as a CSA needs functional experience (Mech) and data analysis experience.

Thanks,

You can apply all you want, but it s not a sure thing.
You will need to rely solely on your MSIS. Your engineering degree doesn't really count towards CSA. You don't have CSA experience. You are an engineer with engineering experience.

My CV for the CSA position is complete with IT verbage while the previous 4 TN positions have Mech Engg experience (CBP will have record of previous CVs). I can explain to the officer that engineering deliverables are multidisclipinary that need an applicant to use ERP softwares.

Is Management consultant a safer route than CSA?

Your CV is not part of your application for a CSA job.

If you are being hired as an MC, then you can file for MC.

NelsonA,
Thanks for the reply.

Please elaborate on "Your CV is not part of your application for a CSA job".

I am already feeiling guilty that the resume I applied in the HR system for had a complete IT profile.

I would prefer to go to the border with old Mech CV (4 TNs) and have all IT experience in the summary section.

All my CSA experience will be codified in my non TN experience on CV in case the officer asks.

Even my TN previous employers had CSA deliverables on the support letter.

Would the USCBP have all my old TN paper work (job posting, old CV and supprt letters?)

Thanks and appreciate all the help. Waiting for salary approval , back ground check etc right now.

Regards,
Jack

You are missing the point that your interview/job application with the company is completely separet from your TN petition.

You get the job offer anyway you and the company see fit.

But for the TN, you need specific documents, and qualifications, and your CV is not one of them.

NelsonA,
Thanks for the reply.

Please advise if the MSIS can be alternative credentials to the Computer Science undergrad with no CSA work experience.

Is it legal for the candidate to discuss pros / cons of TN category with new employer with regards to support letter draft by email? Thanks.

jack
You will have to find that out at the border.

What could possibly be illegal about discussing TN with employer. How else will you get the TN support letter?

NelsonA,
Can I carry an experience letter from my Canadian employer that I discharged CSA duties as a special project though I was hired as an engineer? The CSA experience has been mentioned in my CV under Engineer title. I was hired as an engineer but employer had me discharge CSA duties based on my education and training. Thanks

Yes Sir and appointment on Monday. Thanks for everybody's best wishes.

Spoke to ex boss and he said HR only confirms dates of employment and title.

NelsonAand team
Thanks for all the help. Everything was smooth on Monday and he only asked for my educational documents.

He issued under CSA.
