Sending in a returned form

Hi. I was kind of stupid when I initially sent in my N400 because under the signature (part 10 I think), I typed my name because the box allowed text entry and I didn't know they actually wanted a written signature. They sent me back my application saying it was denied and telling me to resubmit it with a signature. I saw that there were stamps and stuff on my application so I thought there might be complications if I sent in a new form so on the same form they sent me back, I signed my name beside my printed name and resubmitted it. Was this what I should have done or should I have printed a new form and submitted that one?

cheers

You did the right thing by returning the old form , it should be ok.
FYI, The bar code with numbers on PG 1 of N-400 is your case number.

Thanks for your reply. I mailed it on November 26. When can I expect to get a reply? Also - how do you know if the check was cashed? I do not have online banking and when I called my bank, they would not reveal that information to me over the phone.

you should get ack and receipt within a month. By x-mas unless blokes are in Holiday mood. Then early next year.

As long as those stamps didn't say "denied" or "refused", you'll be fine.

I think the application was "denied" because there was no signature, and they told me to simply resubmit it with a signature. They did not specify which form (old or new) to resubmit so I just turned in the old one.

You can probably get a printout of recent transactions at an ATM (although the bank may charge you something like $1 or $2 for it).

Hi,
They sent me the NOA letter a few weeks back. The USCIS website says that they sent me a "RFE" on December 20 but after reading around on this forum, I am assuming that this is the finger print notice. If I get it within the next few days, my appointment will probably be in the first or second week of January. I leave back for college at that time so I will try to do a walk-in appointment. Assuming I can do that by January 1st, do you think I can get my passport by mid-May? (I can do the expedited passport application if necessary). This will be crucial because a grant for my research this summer (I begin work by mid-May/1st week of July) involves me leaving country.

cheers

The RFE is probably a fingerprint notice.

Once you complete the oath, you can get a passport in 24 hours at a passport agency if you show proof of upcoming travel.

You almost surely will have the interview before you leave in May/June/July. But your case could stretch into May or later for the oath, if you're not lucky enough. So be prepared to return for the oath. And attend the oath with proof that your travel is a temporary trip for your research, in case you are hassled about the traveling at the oath.
