Self petitioning

when an alien is approved to "self petition" for adjustment of status based on VAWA, which one is a faster way to green card? motion to reopen an already denied I-485 (because the abusing spouse dropped the application) OR filing a brand new adjustment of status application? Does anybody know or knows of possible resources?
 
but what about the name check? doesn't it take one down all the way to the bottom of the list again?
