Selective Service

Hi,
I got my GC 2 months before I turned 26. I did know untill now that I have to register for Selective Service Program. I am not sure why either my immigration lawyer, officer or anyone for that matter told me anything about this?
Is this going to be a problem when I file for my Citizenship?
PL advise
thanks

you meant you did not know and not sure why no one told you about that?
how old are you? may be you shall contact SSS and see if there has anything they can help you or you can fix it. it will be a problem of not regeristerring if you have to (by law?? or not by law?).

did you contact the SSS to explain your case and if so, what did they say?
you might want to consult with a good immigration lawyer to see what he can help you. i know a website which you can request to speak with a member of their assoication in your area. usually the initial phone call / meeting (mostly 30 mins) for $100. i will check out the website tonight from my home PC.

I also found this FAQ from USCIS website.

http://uscis.gov/graphics/services/natz/faq.htm#q27

from SSS website

http://www.sss.gov/qa.htm#quest11

btw, when you got your green card before 26 of your age, were you in US at that time?

Guess me too

I filed my citizenship without doing anthing with SSS as I got my green card when I was 30 though I in in US when I was 26 on H1 , hopefully it should be fine or do I need to do anything.

Gurus please speak up on this issue as it looks like a common issue for some people now.

thanks

H1 is a non-immigrant status, so you are ok.

I had smiliar experience

I had a similar experience, I did not know I HAD to register with SS so I did not register, I receive my GC when i was 23, in any case when I filed for citizenship I learned of this requirement. I hurriedly wrote SS and requested that I be registered with them, even though at this stage I was 29 y/o

Then guess what! I received a letter from SS informing me that I had already registered and they enclosed my SS registration number. I dont remeber signing up for SS, I didnt even know anything about it, so who signed me up, INS after I got my GC, I dont know, I never researched it, why bother?

So conact SS, you may be lucky, you may be in their system already.
Good Luck
FYI, I have had my FP done, waiting for interview notice, DO is Miami, Fl

I came to the US before I turned 26. 2 months before. I have not consulted an attorney, but I think that is the next step. If anyone can recommend a good one?
I appreciate everyones input in this
