I'd like to let you know that you have to call them. Have them inform that the status letter is for your citizenship interview, they might ask you when is the interview or appointment, some reps might tell you that the respond is first come first serve.

Since your missing papers were sent about two months you have to inquire to be on the safe side. citizenship is the last stepping stair to your peak of achievement, I advice you call again.

If you read the Selective Service question carefully, the very last part of it is the most relevant for you. You were always in a lawful non-immigrant status upto the point you received your green card. Aliens in a lawful non-immigrant status do not have to register for the Selective Service. When you got your green card you were 27 and out of the Selective Service eligible age range.

You do not need to prove anything except that you maintained your lawful non-immigrant status from the time you arrived in the US to the time you received your green card.

Technically speaking, your status changed from lawful non-immigrant to immigrant the moment your I-485 was approved. If there was some lag between the I-485 being approved and you receiving your green card, and you were still age 26 in that gap, I could see a technical requirement to register for Selective Service, but I don't think any reasonable IO would hold that against your naturalization application.

I think you should be fine without a letter from Selective Service.
