Selective Service Program

Hello,

My Interview is on Aug 10. I was asked to bring the SSP clearance letter as part of the standard interview notification template.

How long it will take for getting the letter once the SSP receive the request application ?

I came to USA before 26 on F1 visa , received my GC well after 26. I applied for the SSP request application only this week .. (not having all the paper work to prove my status in F1).

I seriously doubt that I would get the clearance letter from SSP before my Interview.

Does anyone know any alternative ways of getting this quickly or how would I prepare for the interview if the question arise?

Apperciate any/all suggestions

When I applied for mine...I had all the relevant paperwork from F1 through GC, and it took them less than 2 weeks to send the status letter.

I sent request to SSS July 1 and got status letter by July 15 so about 2 weeks.

That's just their standard form letter. Even women get the same letter. If you were not required to register, you don't need it. But of course, it doesn't hurt to have the Selective Service letter. I got it just for my peace of mind.

That is what I thought as well (however I got a status letter, but was never asked for it at the interview). One of my friends recently attended his interview at the Dallas DO, and was asked to mail the letter, before they can send the oath letter (eventhough he is not required to register).

Selective Service Program : You are better off getting it

I am in a similar situation. So few pointers to clarify some conflicting statements from the experts.

1. I talked to CIS Customer Service and they, in her words, "absolutely" need the Selective Services status if you were in the country prior to your 26th birthday.
2. I have scheduled an appointment with the Immigration Officer in Chicago through INFOPass to discuss my particular situation. I will post further information on Tuesday after my appointment.
3. If you do not have the I-20 or the passport from that time to prove the dates that you entered US and your status as an international student, then you have to go through the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) to ask for the I-94 records. Be prepared for prolonged harrassment as INS (now CIS) is going to ask for very precise information, which you may but I do not remember, like the date, airlines etc of your entry.
4. My school could not help but you may want to try the International Services Office of your school too.

I am a little better placed than you because my interview is in September but I am just so frustrated that I have everything and this thing is putting such a kink. It is a little ironic that SS is asking for information based on INS records to issue a letter that INS requires.

Hope this helps

Cheers

I reviewed the Selective Services website, but I didn't find a form or any other formal process to request a waiver letter or anything like that.

How did folks on this forum get that letter from SS? Did they just send them a free-form letter?

it only takes 2 weeks to get the status letter. i think u should apply asap. Send the application form by fax or fedex overnight.

I mailed the form with letters from my previous universities on last Friday. Called the SSS using the phone number from old posts. Person replied same way may take upto 2 weeks. She advise me to call back late this week. I will follow up with them on Friday or so. She mentioned that there is no quick solution other that waiting for the outcome. Crossing my fingers.

Hi

I received a interview letter, asking for "Selective" evidence.
When I go to the site where there is a form to download , to request for a letter of evidence..it states that it is applicable for "men" only.
I am a woman, who arrived in this country when I was 26 yrs and 4 mths old.
So, should I still fill this form ? Any one in a similar situation ?

DO : Oakland
Priority date : 26th july'05
Finger Printing : 25th aug'05
Interview Date : 21st nov' 05

Thanks
