Hi,

I had a quick question and wondered if someone out there could perhaps enlighten me a bit...

In reference to diavon's post:

I find myself sailing the same boat, except that I came here on H1B as opposed to F1. My question pertains to affidavit of support. In my situation, my wife who is a US citizen and my sposor is currently not working rendering here income and lack of assets insufficient to be used towards an affidavit of support.

I have a fulltime job and have had it for the last 4-5 years. What procedure do I need to follow in order to provide my income towards the affidavit of support?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

well this is a good one, if your wife is not currently at work it all depends on how much she used to made for the past 3 years and wether of not she has additional dependants on her imcome tax, cause if she doesnt what you can do is include her on your income tax on on your bank account, for example

if she has no other dependent than you and her i believe all you and her have to maka combine is around 20,000.00 to 23,000.00 or may be even less than that look at the poverly gidue line level. anyway as long as you both file togehter and she is on you taxes you may be find, also you may need to find another sponsor perhaps one of her parents of brother of sister but that person must meet the critiria they should be able to paid for you not that they will, they only will if you start taking public benefit before the 40 consecutive quarters. but anyway if you have claimed taxes together in the past you should be fine. also consult with a lawyer.

good luck:)

Thank you for your comments

I appreciate you taking the time to comment on the post.

Essentially, I was hoping to avoid asking any of her family members to co-sign the affidavit of support for social reasons. Since I have worked in the US for over 3 years now, I know I have earned enough SS credit to be able to support myself :->

I have heard of people who followed this route - but alas I just could not find the exact procedure to do so.

There is no special procedure. You just have to fill out the Affidavit of Support.

You should have lived together in the same household for 6 months or more to qualify for supporting yourself.

Thank you for your response.

Technically speaking though, isn't there a requirement mandated by I-864 that the sponsor as well as the co-signer(s) must be US citizens? Just curious.
