Hi,

I am working in USA on H1-B visa since March-1999. I was married in Oct-2003 in India. My wife and i had differences and we got divorced in Feb-2005 in USA.

I am planning to remarry in Sep-2005 in India. When my new wife applies for her H-4 visa in Chennai consulate, is she going to face any problems? I know she has to submit my divorce decree (in addition to all other documents) during her visa interview. What kind of questions can the officer ask her and how she should be prepared to answer them?

Also, i am planning to do my 7th year H1-B visa extension stamping during the same time. So, we will both go together into the consulate on the same day.

Anybody who faced this situation before, please post your replies. Thanks in advance.

I think the officer can ask her only about things that she's expected to know.

Any details of your past marriage can't be asked -- how would your new wife know about it ?!?!
Possibly the only thing she's expected to know is that you are a divorcee, if at all.

They'll only ask her to prove that this marriage is for real. Also pls reply to ginnu's question -- where is your ex-wife now and in what status ?

Ex-wife converted her visa from H4 to F1, before the divorce was finalized. She is living in USA now.

New wife knows about my divorce.
