Screwed by Lawyer

My existing lawyer is way too expensive. He charged me $1110 to respond to I-485 RFE. as service fee. The RFE has 5 questions.

If I get any RFE in future and I feel like I can respond to it , can I send the response by myself? So far this lawyer has charged almost like $11K for me and my wife's case.

Will USCIS be okay if they issue the RFE to the lawyer and I respond to it my self considering that fact that I-485 is my case and it has nothing to do with employer.

This infinite green card case is like a never ending story.

Interesting. My lawyer charged my company a set fee with no additiona lfees for any RFE or other stuff. In your case, when getting an RFE, determine if you can respond yourself, and if so, do that and tell the lawyer not to respond.
 
My lawyer charged me $650 for RFE. She told me it was a lot of work etc. My company wrote the employment letter, and she only attached one cover letter mentioning what is included in the file and fedexed it to USCIS. IT IS SO UNWORTH IT.
 
I paid $500 to my attorny for the 485 initial filings. When the RFE's arrived, they didn't say anything about extra charge. But anyway, I prepared the RFE's for both me and my wife (about 5 questions each) and wrote the cover letters myself. Send them to the attorney. They made copies, attached the original RFE, Fedexed them to USCIS, and that's all. Never thought they would ask for extra. Guess I'm lucky, then...
 
It's like any other business. Some lawyers are expensive and some are not. Some charge by an hour and some take a fixed fee. You negotiate the price and decide if you want to have a contract with lawyer. A thousand is not a lot when lawyer's time is $300 an hour.

Lawyers really suck

These Lawyers cousins of Bloody suckers (Employer). They both work together and try to loot the people. It didn't happen to me much. But, readings in this forum shows the evidence.

If there is any RFE, basically you have to do everything by yourself, getting exp letters, certificates, etc.. lawyers all they do is print one stadard prepared letter and attach all the stuff we give, send it to USCIS.

They pretend like they are doing every damn thing and charge for that. Most of the people don't want to fight with lawyers. When I got my RFE, it was like a hell for me to get the exp certificates and lawyer helped me a little bit with mistakes in letters, I had to correct that again. He charged me money for his help.
 
I got lucky i guess, I got an RFE and needed a translated Birth Certificate that cost me $125. The lawyer sent a bill and told me to pay directly to the traslation services, i don't know if they get a cut of that or not.
