What software to use for scanning the picture? Any recommendations?

I used "Panit" program, after scanning at 300X300 resolution, whenever I saved the image it becomes 96X96 resolution? How to fix this problem?

Another question is that, how to check image depth color?

Photoshop is mostly used program. You can manage size and depth easily from this software.

Beside, you can check the Scanner Driver software. There is also a software from which you can adjust.
