Oath??

Here is the situation... I just got my letter for my citizenship interview in San Jose, CA to be held in late December.

The catch is that my interview is the same date I am supposed to travel outside the country for 3 week trip. My interview is early in the morning and my flight is in the evening. If the interview does not last more then 2-3 hours then I can easily make my flight. I don’t want to reschedule the interview because of the delay and I can’t really change my flight as I have to attend an important wedding and going with family.

My questions if you know that SJ office gives oath at the time of the interview? I don’t want to take oath immediately there as I want to keep the green card and travel and take oath when I come back.

The letter say it will approx. take 2 hours for the whole process but many people say it is only a 30mins or less process. Do you know what is the 2 hours for or its just a precautionary thing.

I am quite hopeful that I will not be called in for the oath ceremony immediately. Is it possible to let the interviewer know that I will be out and so do not schedule the oath ceremony before that?

Any advice if I am missing anything as I am planning to go for my interview and then travel the same day.

The interview lasts hardly 30 mins.

2 hours is a standard verbage they put on the interview letter. It does not take even close to that.

Here at San Jose DO, the interview officers only have the authority to recommend approval or denial of the case. But they do not schedule the oath dates. So, it will be fruitless trying to seek their help in this regard.

thanks Takadigi!

I will then plan on keeping my interview date and hope that it does not go too long past noon so I will safely be able to make my flight that night.

If anyone has any tips etc. for the San Jose office please post, like what docuements they are sure to ask for. I plan to take most of the documents they are asking for any ways.
thanks
