So there are a lot of posts about changing jobs after the I-140 and after the green card. But here is a situation I haven't seen posted yet. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts or experiences if applicable.
Let's say your I-140 job was based on an academic appointment. So, once the EAD is received (or the green card for that matter) it's ok to go ahead and do other things on the side, like consulting. But from what I understand, changing completely to a new job is not ok except in extreme circumstances.
So here is my question: what are the implications of going to 50% time on the original I-140 job, and 50% at another job? What about 10% on the original job?
Is there a threshold at which you are no longer "working" for the original employer? Is the expectation that you will remain with them on a full-time basis?
Would the other job need to be in a "same or similar" job code as the original job?
How long have you been advised to wait after receipt of GC before making a move to a new job-- I know the general advice is 6 months, but is this based on anything?
Thanks as always for your thoughts!
