sad story! my friend has been illegal all her life!

How sad is that..I've never experienced that situation but I think she will have to immigration office and seek help on what is the best thing to do.
 
Unfortunately I don't think by being beaten up will get you your citizenship. I could be wrong but I have never heard of that before. If Karla's mother gets her citizenship she can apply for Karla even though she is over the age of 21. It may take some time depending on where she lives. Once the mother gets citizenship it can take anywhere from 5 months to 5+ years for her to get her greencard. There is hope. Unfortunately it is a long process and not always fair.
