Rude INS operators

I made a phone call yesterday to the nebraska service center. I was surprised that it did not take me a long time to be answered. However, I was answered in a very cold and rude way. They complained that I called before and the man was literally yelling at me. There are 2 possibilities: 1. these folks are worried about losing their jobs as a result of george bush's new initiative concerning the department of homeland security. 2. they are just getting more rude as years pass by as a result of the current hysteria against immigrants in this country. If someone had a similar experience, please share with us. Also did anyone, beside gilbert received his approval letter yet? Thanks

They have always been rude and do not have any sense of manners. Every now and then you get a helpful operator. But he or she is the exception.

That said, most INS operators cannot give you good information anyway and I think it is a waste of time and money to call. I would do any case status check or request for information thru Congress or my lawyer. The information you get from either source is much more reliable.

So my suggestion is do NOT call.

They keep tracking of your calls. When you call them and talk to an Immigration Officer, they know when was the last time you called. So, unless there is a real need for information, better not to call just to see if there is any progress with your application since the last time you called.

I think I did have a real need to call them and ask them what the heck they are doing. How about waiting more than 10 years ?

If you think your priority date is current and the INS should be processing your file now but is not, a better use of your time would be to pester them thru your Congress member. You will get results much sooner. Why would you spend money and time to speak to a generaly clueless "immigration INFORMATION officer"?

Again, the INS is not responsible for the 10-year wait. It is a matter of law.

I understand that. I am also waiting for nine years (since I first applied for asylum). But if you have called recently, it is useless to call again soon after, just to see if there is any progress.
If we are waiting for that long, it is not because of INS only. The Immigration Reform for asylees of 1995 and the 10,000 quota are mainly responsible for the delay.
