RTD

Is there anyone received RTD? I am getting worried. I never expected this much delay otherwise I would have applied earlier.

My RD July 12, 2003

Please update whats going on beside processing date.

My brother applied in early June and still has not received the document. I have applied in Mid August and I suppose I should not even be thinking about getting RTD anytime soon....

My receipt date is August 15, and I have not received my RTD yet.
One of the board members recently received the RTD and has a receipt date of May 13.

It sounded like many members here are still waiting for their RTD including myself.

Anyone who applied after April 15 and have received his/her RTD, Can you post an update here.

Thanks.

we already talked about this not too long ago. They are taking a long time due to security concerns, I believe.

One of the posts I read in this forum said the delay is due to INS/BCIS name change. Also, they have new designs for RTD and RP. Those factors may be causing the delay. Did you guys get any LIN#s for your applications? May be you can track your case status online.

The document that alanpero2 posted on this forum is very informative (Minutes of Asylum Office HQ Meeting is the subject line). The info confirmed with what the BCIS representive told me few days ago. The BCIS representive told me that the processing time showing on the notice of action is referring to the reentry permit not the RTD.

There are many reasons that cause the delay of our application, but the 5 months of processing time for RTD that the representive told me should be valid. BTW, 3 days before I sent in my application, I have been told that the RTD application will take 4 months. 2 months later, the processing time is now 5 months. I don't know if I should be expecting to receive my RTD in 4 months or 5 months or even longer.

Anyway, I would post an update here if I receive any news. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting for their travel document.

You are lucky Man!

Well, I just called BCIS. The lady told me to expect mine by the end of Nov. I applied on 12th July. I am not sure if I will will get it by that time! This is just rediculous to wait six months to get one year valid RTD.

I applied on June 04, 2003 and received it July 30, 2003.

wantmygcnow,

Good for you. So far you are the only person I know on this board that received the RTD so soon. Did you expedite your case? or did you apply thru a 3rd party such as a law firm?

Many board members here have a similar receipt date as you are, but they are still waiting. What is your secret?

Congratulations!

I dont know if its lucky but I sent application with my previous RTD, my ssn card copy, My drivers license copy and exact fee and I also wrote a letter telling them I needed this as soon as possible. I also included receipt from my previous RTD and processing date for that..leting them know It never took more than 40 days in the past..

wantmygcnow,
I think it was your letter requesting expedition that made the difference. Sometimes that take favorable actions if the request is made but again favorable action will vary depending on the person processing the request
...

Regards

Wantmygcnow,

I agree with RAsylee. You asked for expediting your case, and the BCIS granted your request.

In a normal situation, BCIS will take a lot longer time to process I131 application than a year or even few months ago.

After I received your reply I called BCIS again, the representative repeatedly told me that the I131 application is now taking 5 months to process. I will not call them again. I think the answer is very clear. I applied in mid-august so I should expect to receive my RTD in mid-January. I will monitor the progress of the processing time, If something does not look promising then I will write them a letter for expediting my case if possible. As long as I can receive my RTD by Feb., then I am good.

Actually I dont' think its the letter. IN my opinion they never ever read the letter..I have applied 3-4 times and every year I have gotten in the same time. I can say that I have attached previous travel document receipts..Is it possible that an officer refers to previous receipt to see if a SECURITY check was required? If not then they process it anyways without waiting to see if my application qualifies for additional checks??

wantmygcnow,

Do you usually include your previous I131 receipt everytime you apply for a new RTD?

Actually they do read letters. Some one I know had applied for RTD and received the standard response of 420-500 or so days.
Then he followed up with a second letter and requested expedition for his RTD and gave some family emergency/sickness reason and he received his RTD in 10 days after his letter was sent. (Timeframe for this correspondence was in July 03, I am positive about this information as he had shared his LIN # and I checked his status on line)

I have personally received RTD within 40-60 days previously and this is my fifth RTD so I don't think they are doing selective security checks but again that is just my Opinion . I think that delay in RTD is because of not enough staff at Service Centers and also re-assignment of the current staff to other activities within the service center, for e.g. Adustment of I-485 for asylees to ensure that the quota numbers could be maximized.....

I was lucky too. They received my application for RTD in early June, and I got my RTD in August. I sent copy of my old expired RTD, as I always do, nothing spesial. They ask in the I-131 when you are going to travel, I answered"in July", they sent me RTD in August, thats it.
My husband applied in August, still waiting till now.
