RTD Expired question

Ok here's the situation. I'm planning to visit Romania in June. My RTD expired in September. I call the embassy,and they said that my RTD need to be valid for 6 months.So here's the dilenma.Can I apply it now..which is FEB and get the visa and go in June or do I have to get it renew than apply for visa. What do y'all think?

It is not only the matter of the embassy requirements - all airlines have a requirement for the travel document validity to let you onboard. Some airlines have it at 3 months, some have it at 6 months. So, check with the airlines as well - you may get your visa and your trip all planned but on the day of the travel they may not let you on the plane. And it is good if that happens in the US, at least you can cancel the trip and stay here and apply for new RTD. What if when you are coming back and in Romania the airline officials decide that your travel document is not valid long enough to let you onboard. I know someone to whom this happened while travelling to Taiwan - the airlines overlooked the expiration date while she was leaving from the US but when she was boarding the plane from Taiwan, the officials in the airport there realized that her RTD is not valid for long enough and did not allow her to board the plane. She had to stay in Taiwan and apply for the RTD renewal there in the American Embassy, took her 6 months. Huge mess.
 
so the best thing is to renew my rtd right now? Will it be done before June? Damn..it took at least 4 mos. I just checked the website and they said that they can send me another RTD if mine is still valid. How do I renew it than?

expedite it

i just got my new RTD 2 weeks ago, it was done in about 2 weeks since they received it. i sent paperwork and a letter explaining I needed it fast and they did it. just do that and then fax them to remind them and it will be fast.

Hey ianyu - what could be the legitimate reason to expediate (obviously not the business meeting?), and what's the fax number?

hi

I think any reason could be used, as long as it is real. if it's a business one, it's a business one. i thin i used this info from somewhere on forum:
"So here is the fax number: 402.323.2594 and it belongs to Gregory W. Christian
Deputy Center Director of Nebraska Service Center."

so what i would do:

ready sticky on this issuue first
send in your application with a letter explaining by when you need the rtd. then a few weeks before you need it fax another "reminder letter" to this fax. that should do it. they seem to be better these days:)
