Roommate detained - is there a concern for the other person?

Here is a question. A roommate, who is here illegally, has been detained due to criminal activity. The other roommate, who is also here illegally, has been working, been law abiding, has been paying taxes, but fears that the investigators looking at the other roommate's case will be questioning her as well and will eventually find out that she is also here illegally, will detain her and deport her. Is her fear reasonable? Should she move out and change residences? Opinions are appreciated.

Am I the only one here who sees a contradiction in this statement?

The other roommate, who is also here illegally, has been working, been law abiding

Regarding your query, one roommate's detention should not automatically result in ICE hunting down the other roommate. However if the first one is offered a plea agreement that involves naming other illegals....well....one never knows....

Thanks for your response. You are right - there is definitely a contradiction! Certainly being here illegally is not law-abiding (I guess I meant she had no criminal record)...

It depends...
Being roomates to the criminal might put her at the wrong place. Have you heard of guilty by assocation? If they were to come to the house or apartment to do a search, she would definately be questioned. God knows where that might end up.

Leave alone a roomate, I know a case where someone in Boston got picked up by ICE.
He was just visiting his friend's apartment when ICE came. He just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. You never know.
