Right time to apply for visitor visa interview at consulate????

I'm planning to have my aunt visit me in usa for a few months. I want her to be in USA from July to December.

-- When should she go for the visa interview? I have already sent her the papers. Is it ok to go for interview right now itself?

-- Fow how much time is a toursit visa given? If someone appears for an interview now, if they get a visa, can they enter USA in July and stay for 6 months? (the date when a visa gets stamped - do the visa validity starts then? or is it based on the date stamped at the port of entry?)

The traveller can enter US any day between the visa issue date and visa expiry date on the passport. Their stay in US is governed by the I94 expiry date and not the Visa stam expiray date.

They can apply for the visa interview and get the visa approved. Make sure their travel date falls within the visa issue and expiry dates.
