Hi all,

I have a RFE requesting grant application documents I have been involved, including the pages identifying the research participants and roles.

I have a question in reponsing to it: How I can show the evidence of my roles in the projects if the application documents did not write my name while I really am a key member in the research?

Is it ok that I ask the boss to write a letter to say I am a key member?

You can of course ask your boss to write such a letter but since your name doesn't appear on the grant there will always be a big doubt for the USCIS why your name is not there escpeically if you claim to be a key member.

Thank you for the comment that really is my concern. I have the grant application in hand, and only the PI's name (my boss) is explicitly there. The dilemma is that I am definitley the key member to help the PI to work and finish the project but my name did not show there because of the application procedure.

Is there any colleague can share the information if regularly your name appeared in the grant application or not for the project you are involved in?

If the grant is still at a proposal step, it would be prudent to ask the PI to include you as a co-investigator in the grant. If it is an approved grant, a letter from the PI is the best you can do.
 
If you presented some of the research data from the project, the poster or conference abstract should have similar title to that of the proposal along with your name and your boss' name. Usally you should be the first author of the poster or conference abstract.

Ask your boss to write a letter to indicate that you are the pricipal personnel for the project.

These two items should suffice to prove that you are the key player for the project in question.

Apart from a letter from your boss (stressing ur overall role in the project), try to get a letter from the research dean (or vice president of research or both) of your institution. When did you start working in the project (before or after it was funded?)

I joined the project right after it was funded. So the letter from the research Dean can be stronger than that from the boss?

In my opinion, boss should specifically state ur role in the project (and for the success of the ongoing and future projects) and research dean should focus in general on the critical nature of the research activities that ur group is conducting and ur role in it.

What I don't understand is why are they requesting the grant application if you joined the project after it was funded. So the grant application was written before you joined the project and therefore your name is not on it. What did you write about the grant application in the petition, is it for the award part ?

I am just curious: Did you mention the grant anywhere in the petition and if yes what for ?
 
What is your role in the project/grant application? Are you a post-doc / researcher hired in this project or Co-PI

When the project was submitted, did your PI submitted your CV amongst the worker that will be involved in this project?

What was exactly the sentence where grant issue came up.

I hope not too many independent researcher wrote something about you as the main scientists for this grant because it will be always dissficult to prove it when your name is not on the grant (even with a letter from your boss). It is very odd that USCIS is asking for the grant based on some people mentioning it in the recommendation letters, looks a little bit like they doubt the integrity of some of the scientists.
 
I am a postdoc hired for the project. I have the grant application and awarding document in hand, and could not see others' name except PI's. My CV was not asked for proposal intention.

The original message said "complete grant application/award documents are not requested but please submit all cover pages and pages identifying the research participants and roles."

I do not think it is because of the recommendation letter, because at least I know a person got same question from the same officer for NIW.
