RFE for spouse's AP Renewal.

Hi,

I got an RFE for my wifes AP renewal. My AP was approved. The ND for both is Dec 05, 2002.

They asked for proof of relationship.
* Marriage Certificate
* Birth Certificate.

Quesions:
* Why do they need birth certificate?
* How do I get the marriage certificate and birth certificates?
- The notary's do not attest birth and marriage certificates.
- Should I go to the Indian consulate in San Francisco and
get copies attested or something like that? I think the Indian
consulate provides some document for marriage and birth
certificates.

* What I want to know is what other documents or alternate
documents are good to send along with the RFE.

INS is really weird, they didnt have a problem the first time they gave her the AP, I even sent photocopies of the previous AP but still they want more documents. No wonder they are so damn overworked and consequently understaffed.

If they think that the certificates sent along with 485 seems fake, or you sent mere photocopies (instead of certified copies) then they might ask for the certified copies again....
Yes You can get it certified by Indian consulate authorities...
 
well it was definitely not fake and I have no idea why these morons need it again. But thanks for the response, I just want to know if someone has submitted to the INS a Marriage Certificate or an attested copy by the Indian Consulate.

For me and my wife just photocopies worked (not certified).
In fact we never submitted any attested/certified copies of any document for any application (485/EAD/AP). Just photocopies.
 
The probably reason they are asking because EAD, I485, AP - they all are processed by different divisions. For example, in CSC, 485 procssed by div IV and AP is processed by div I. It's very inefficient govt agency and most of the employees don't want to move their butt from their seats to access old files. So you get RFE. Don't worry much, just send them what they want.
