Revoking H1 without running pay check

Hi , I got H1 this yr which got valid from oct 1st 2007, However I got EAD too and I am thinking of revoking H1. My employer told me I need to run a paycheck and then revoke it to be on safe side. Can any one tell me if this is necessary? can I just revoke it without running the pay check? Any response would be appreciated
