Returning to US after expired Re-entry permit

Hello all!
Right now I'm outside of US and my Re-entry permit expires on June 2011. My problem is I got stuck in my country because of military service. Now I can't travel outside of my country before i pass the military service which is mandatory in my country and the goverment wont let me go outside of the country before i pass the military service.
the military service here is about 20 month so it will pass the expiration date of my re-entry permit.
Now my question is: can I get a returning resident visa (sb-1) for this reason?
my father, my mother and my only brother (my whole family) and some of my relatives are living in the US. I have a bank account there and SSN.

What country is it? The U.S. has specific agreements with specific countries about this issue. The nearset U.S. Embassy or Consulate should be consulted.

Probably yes, if you can provide proof that you were being prevented from leaving the country against your will, and if your green card is not based on asylum.

You can't get an SB-1 if your reentry permit is still unexpired (they'll just tell you to return with the permit), but contact the US consulate now to inform them of the situation and get it put in writing so when your military service is over and you're applying for the SB-1 in the future they'll have this already on record.

Thank you for your replies.

The country is Iran which I dont think they have an agreement with U.S.!!

No my gc is DV based.

the nearest U.S. consulate is in turkey and I can't travel there now due to same problem. So the only thing I can do is to inform them by email.

another question: Is there any thing my family can do in the U.S. about this case?
for example transfer their property to my name or informing some immigration office or anything else.
can a lawyer help me in this case?

Don't use email; by the time you're ready to apply for the SB-1, the email might have been deleted. But if you send paper documents, they'll become part of your permanent file.

If Iran doesn't prevent physical documents from going to the consulate in Turkey, inform them with a letter on paper that you're being prevented from leaving Iran until xx/xxxx date and you plan to apply for an SB-1 visa when you're able to leave. Attach a copy of your reentry permit, green card, and military orders. Make sure your letter has your A#. And send the package by courier so you'll know if they got it.

If they prevent physical documents from going there, try to make make copies and then fax them with your letter to the consulate.
