Returning Flights

Just heard from someone that -Canadian immigration officer at the POE may ask the ticket confirmation that the person does not have returning flight.

I bought the return ticket from xyz airline and in my e-ticket that does show that outbound and inbound flights in few days.

do they immigration officer really ask about air tickets or returning tickets?
