For the vistor travelling on B2 from India to USA, do they need to have a return ticket with them at port of exit in India? While I-94 could be even for 3 months or 6 months can we book the return tickets from USA? Are they going to ask about this in India?

The chap in India will probably not ask unless the passport is annotated as "Emigration check required".

The Immigration fellow at port of entry may ask to see a return ticket, but it is not very common.

I dont think they care, but one thing to kee in mind. One way tkts are very expensive, and it may be worthwhile to get return tickets that are easy to change. There are tickets that allow one free change.

I researched the return tickets and found that though return tkts was about 1000-1200 one way tkt was 800-900.
