Return ticket really needed for B2 extension application?

Hi everyone,

I am currently in the USA on a B2 tourist visa that expires April 21st, 2010. I would like to extend this visa for some months but I wonder if it's very necessary to include a return ticket. I have a return ticket for april, but I don't want to exchange this ticket until I know that my visa will be extended. Should I go and get a return ticket for October anyway, and just cancel it in case I don't get the extension? What would be your suggestions?

when you get the extension make sure to make a photo copy and save it for latter use in the future, this your proof for legal staying in the US.
 
Hello I am also in the same situation. If any one submitted I-539 B2 extension without return ticket. I am applying for my inlaws and actual return is on Jun 18th and want to extend for 3 more months.
Also how much time will it take to get the extension decision from US ambassey.
