Restoration of Lost US citizenship (60 Members and growing)

I would like to know if any of you members know anyone who has restored his US citizenship after having lost by means of naturalization in a foreign country where Dual citizenship was not allowed.
Loss of US citizenship was carried out under act 349 (a) (1).

Thanks in advance and I take this opportunity to show my appreciation to this forum.

Regards

Hi Alex,

Thanks for your input. Yes we are aware of this link and many others. We have researched this subject in depth. We are so far a group of 60 growing week by week. We are currently living in Malta an Island in the Mediterranean. We have all lost our citizenship by Naturalization in a foreign country yet we are having difficulty to understand why we are being asked to show "extreme hardship" when we nationalized as Maltese citizens. We are therfore seeking help by who has encountered this difficulty and succeeded to restore his US Citizenship.

Thanks again
Regards
John

Adding to what has just been said, the thing is that when the Maltese laws changed in 2000 allowing dual citizenship practically this went down to zero. Also these regulations affected thousands of Canadians, Australians and Americans.

Those who renounced their US citizenship did so because there were no other alternatives.

UMG exists to help US-born nationals "come back home". Support us!

John, is your goal to get you US-citizenship back and to renounce the Maltese Citizenship - or do you and your group want to be Dual Citizens ?

So I understand this in a way that you guys basically would like to move back 'home', right ? Alex

Hi AlexanderG

Restoring our US citizenship is all we want, if this requires giving up (renouncing) Maltese citizenship I have no problem whatsoever with that.

Just to give this forum feedback on this thread.

A good number including myself so far have had our U.S. Citizenship restored as though it was never lost. Since we have proved that it was not done with the intention to lose U.S. citizenship.

You said it, if you took Maltese citizenship without the intention to give up the US citizenship you haven't lost the US citizenship. You would lose your US citizenship if you go to an officer and sign a paper saying you renounce US citizenship. There are some other corner cases in loss of citizenship, but in most cases if one naturalizes in another country that doesn't mean automatic loss of US citizenship, and most likely it means that the US citizenship has been preserved.

Remember that for act 349 (a) (1) to apply one has to have the intention to relinquish the US citizenship, so if you didn't have the intention to relinquish then it wasn't lost, was it?

Since malta at the time did not permit dual citizenship one would have to renounce his foreign citizenship at the age of 19. Due to this many if not all renounced their foreign citizenship and were provided a CLN ( certificate of loss of nationality) by the US embassy. Thus losing US citizenship. We have proved that we were coerced to do this.

That's good to hear and make sense. Forced renunciations of citizenship should be possible to be reverted. Anyway, I hope someone with personal experience will join the discussion, but I can tell you that this is out of the typical experience of the average user of this forum. Most people who come here come for the N-400 naturalization process and have questions regarding criminal background or continuous residence issues.
